A survey of 180 U.S. newspapers on their digital transition efforts shows steady growth in revenue from digital sales, but challenges remain in establishing sales approaches that maximize digital revenue.
The confidential survey was conducted by Media Solutions Partners, an Atlanta-based consulting group focusing on helping newspapers transition into a successful digital environment.
The survey was commissioned by a major U.S. newspaper company.
Other key items:
• Some newspapers are seeing slow or flat audience growth, but also anticipating huge opportunities in mobile and tablet products.
• Newspapers participating in this survey indicated a year over year growth in percentage of ad revenue coming from digital, reporting an average of 7.8 percent digital ad revenue; however, some of those showing growth add that is due to print decline, and not necessarily real growth of digital ad dollars.
